If you are looking for a song that will make you want to dance and feel the heat of the carnival, then you need to check out Spirit Waist by Mela Caribe and Olatunji. This is a groove Soca music release for Trinidad and Tobago's 2024 Carnival, produced by the talented DJ Private Ryan. The song is a perfect blend of catchy lyrics, infectious music, and sensual vocals.
The song tells the story of a male and female duo who meet at a party and are instantly attracted to each other. The girl is a gifted whiner who hypnotizes the male with her dancing technique, which he calls "spirit waist whining". She is so good that he can't take his eyes off her and he begs her to stay with him. The lyrics emphasize the teasing from the female and the total adoration from the male, creating a playful and flirty dynamic.
The music is a chest-pounding bass with a very danceable groove Soca music style that could only come from the musical genius that is DJ Private Ryan. The music complements the lyrics and the vocals, creating a smooth and sexy vibe that exudes foreplay on the dance floor. The music also has some elements of Afrobeat and dancehall, adding some diversity and flavor to the song.
The production is excellent, polished, and professional. The song sounds crisp and clear, and the mix is well-balanced. The song also has a music video, which you can watch on YouTube. The video features Mela Caribe and Olatunji as the main characters and some dancers and extras. The video captures the essence of the song, showing the chemistry between the singers and the energy of the party.
My personal impression of the song is that it is a hit. I am totally sold with this production, the teasing lyrical content, the sexy vibe from both singers and the music that makes me want to move. Mela Caribe and Olatunji are both amazing artists, and they complement each other very well. They have great voices, charisma, and style. The actors in the music video were also excellent, and they portrayed the story of the song very well.
Spirit Waist by Mela Caribe and Olatunji is a song that I recommend to anyone who loves Soca music, or who wants to experience the carnival spirit. This is a song that will make you feel good, and that will make you want to dance with someone. This is a song that will stay in your playlist for a long time. This is a song that I love. ?

Calling all masqueraders, fete-goers, and Soca enthusiasts! This year's Carnival soundtrack boasts a fiery new anthem that'll have you leaping off the streets and straight into euphoria – Nailah Blackman's and Pumpa's electrifying collaboration, "Born To Fly."
Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago's sun-kissed shores and Grenada's vibrant pulse, this duo delivers a sonic cocktail that explodes with the very essence of Carnival. Forget your worries, and shed your inhibitions, because "Born To Fly" is your permission to jump, scream, and lose yourself in the intoxicating rhythm of Soca.
The lyrics paint a vivid picture – bodies pulsing, feet pounding the pavement, spirits soaring with every infectious beat. It's the release you crave, the uninhibited joy that erupts when Carnival sets fire to the streets. Nailah's sultry, siren-like vocals weave through the melody, her sweetness adding a touch of flirty charm. Then Pumpa enters with a raspy roar, his powerful voice injecting raw energy into the mix, mirroring the unbridled revelry of the fete.
This isn't just a song; it's an experience. Marvelus and Anson Pro, the production mastermind behind the track, have conjured a soundscape that transports you to the heart of the Carnival frenzy. The music builds, pulsates, and explodes with an unrelenting force, mimicking the exhilarating feeling of literally being "Born To Fly."
And let's not forget the vocal magic that happens when Nailah and Pumpa join forces. It's like watching two champion athletes spar, each pushing the boundaries of expression while complementing each other perfectly.
"Born To Fly" is more than just a Soca song; it's a declaration of freedom, a celebration of life, and an invitation to join the most vibrant party on Earth. The song revolves around a relatable party scenario: a guy falls under the spell of a beautiful woman and gets a little carried away with his "whining" (Soca dancing). The lyrics, penned by Darryl Gervais and Kit Israel, are lighthearted and witty, perfectly capturing the playful innocence of the situation. "I did not mean to whine on the girl like that. I didn't mean it," he pleads, but the playful tone suggests he secretly enjoyed himself.
But "Ah Didn't Mean It" isn't just about the lyrics. The musical craftsmanship is equally impressive. Rebel Muzik and Kyle Peters lay down a foundation of solid bass and groovy guitar work, creating a slow-paced Soca rhythm that's perfect for both sweet whining and serious dancing. The production is smooth and polished, letting the melody shine through without overwhelming the catchy beat.
This song is pure dancefloor groove energy. It's impossible not to move your feet to the infectious rhythm and Ravi B's smooth vocals. The vibe is refreshing and undeniably fun, making it a perfect addition to any Soca playlist.
Take note of the following from the song:
- Playful lyrics: The song's relatable theme and charmingly apologetic tone are sure to resonate with listeners.
- Solid production: Rebel Muzik and Kyle Peters deliver a masterclass in Soca production, with a groove that's both laid-back and danceable.
- Catchy melody: The song's melody is hooky and instantly memorable, guaranteed to get stuck in your head for days.
- Refreshing vibe: "Ah Didn't Mean It" is a breath of fresh air in the Soca scene, offering a fun and lighthearted alternative to the genre's usual energetic anthems.
Ravi B's "Ah Didn't Mean It" is a delightful Soca gem. With its smooth vocals, playful lyrics, and infectious groove, the song is sure to put a smile on your face and get your feet moving. Whether you're a seasoned Soca enthusiast or just looking for some fun summertime vibes, this track is definitely worth a spin.

"Hurricane" is the latest Power Soca anthem by Lyrical and Skinny Fabulous, two very popular Soca artists in the Caribbean. Skinny Fabulous, who is well known for his energetic and catchy lyrics, wrote the song, and it was produced by DJ Desktop, who intends to carve out a name for himself in the business of Soca.
Peter "Wildfire" Noel, out of New York City, conducted the vocal sessions for this production. Parry Jack, one of the best out of Saint Vincent, mixed the track and gave it a crisp and powerful power-soca sound. Beatz added some extra flair and spice to the song, making it sound like a treat for the Road-March title.
`Hurricane` is a song that celebrates the spirit and culture of carnival and aims to claim the coveted Road March title, which is awarded to the most played song during the parade of the bands on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. We recommend this song. Power to the people!
