Now playing

Since our formal collaboration with Islandvybe Radio Philadelphia, we realized that the Caribbean has so much diverse music to offer. We, at Sokah2Soca, feature Soca music and all its subgenres from across the region. We have also featured Calypso and Steelband music. Recently we posted our first Kompa Music mixtape; our wish is to provide a weekly or bi-weekly mixtape of Haitian music, not just Kompa but anything related to Haiti, including Meringue, Rara, Twoubadu, Kompas, and other subgenres our Mixmaster DJ J Star chooses to include in any mix session. We will keep the mixes short—about 30-45 minutes long. Keep in mind that the featured DJ is part of the Islandvybe radio family. Yes, Sokah2Soca is also part of the Islandvybe family, and our posts are featured on the Islandvybe website.

So, get ready to immerse yourself in Haitian music. The atmosphere that they produce will astound you. If you love to dance, then the Kompa (Konpa) will put you in that state of mind. Carnival-style music will feature "Rara" vibes. So come and take that musical and cultural journey with us. We are Islandvybe Radio and Sokah2Soca. We provide blog posts, while Islandvybe provides podcasts and music daily.

If you did not get the opportunity to listen to our previous featured mix done by DJ Jeanius here is the link to the post: Moun Sou Moun Konpa Mix by Jeanius.

We are here to fill in the musical gaps, and featuring Haitian music is just the start of good things to come culturally. Keep in mind that French, African, Spanish, and Taino cultures, among others, have all affected the diverse and vibrant kind of music Haitian music produces. Some of the most popular types of Haitian music include:

Meringue Music:

Meringue is traditional Haitian dance music characterized by its upbeat tempo and catchy melodies. It is often played at weddings, festivals, and other celebrations.

Rara Music:

Rara is a type of street music played during Carnival. It is characterized by its use of drums, horns, and other percussion instruments. Rara music celebrates the Haitian Revolution and other relevant historical events.

Twoubadou Music:

Twoubadou is love ballad music popular in Haiti. It is characterized by its slow tempo and romantic lyrics. Twoubadou music is often played at weddings and other special occasions.

Kompas:

Kompas is a type of popular music that originated in Haiti in the 1950s. It is characterized by its fast tempo, catchy melodies, and danceable rhythms. Kompas music is often played in nightclubs, parties, and other social events.

In addition to these traditional genres, hip-hop, rock, and jazz have all influenced Haitian music. Because of this, Haitian music is a vibrant and constantly changing genre of music that captures the country's rich culture and history.

In

Barbados Soca is showing up with some really enjoyable vibes and up-and-coming voices that should bode well for years to come. It's safe to say that Crop Over Music delivers good music releases with the debuts of talented artists. Today we feature the latest music from Reniece Bonnett, produced by De Red Boyz.

Not much is known about this singer, but we noted that she had a music release titled "Property" in 2022. "Show Me Love" has a relaxed vibe musically. The singer delivered controlled and relaxed vocals for this production. She has a delightful voice, which bodes well for her future singing career. Yes, we approve and think that you will love this track if you are in the mood for a slow groove with someone special for Crop Over 2023.

Even if you don't pay attention to the lyrics, the smooth vibe of this groove-Soca track will capture you. This song will take you to higher heights. Then again, that was the intention: to show that intelligent lyrics in Soca are possible and that people can groove to this vibe without the whine and rum lyrics. Yes, we said it!

This is new music from Tyronne Walters in the gospel-Soca genre. We love the vibe, the constructive and moving lyrical content, and just the feel of the song. Now we need you to join and request more songs like this one. Share the post with your social media peers. Let the people know that Soca music always rises to the occasion!

The NGC Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra is a professional steel band based in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago. The band is known for its unique style and exciting repertoire. The band's music blends traditional calypso and Soca with contemporary pop and jazz influences. The band's members are all highly skilled musicians dedicated to their craft. These young musicians displayed their skills at the preliminary round of the Pan in the 21st Century competition.

Playing "Let Me Love You" by Mario, the musical arranger, Stefon West, produced a scintillating arrangement that captured the moment, leading to a high score of 277 points. It was a delightful performance, which we have included in this post via SoundCloud. Sometimes just focusing on the sounds of the pans without visuals makes everything sound and feel better. We are pleased to feature this ear-worm performance for pan lovers everywhere.

After listening to the performance, you will agree that the NGC Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra is a vibrant and dynamic group. It is known for its passion for music and commitment to excellence. If you are in Trinidad and Tobago, check out a performance by the NGC Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra. You won't be disappointed!
