Republic Bank Exodus Steelband, one of the most popular and successful steel orchestras in Trinidad and Tobago, delivered a stunning performance of "Long Time" by Arrow at the National Panorama 2024 large bands' preliminaries on Monday, January 22. Long Time is a classic Soca tune that is beloved in the Caribbean region and a favorite for steelbands to play.

The band, based in St. Augustine, East Trinidad, showcased their musical skills and versatility with a dynamic and energetic rendition of the song. "BJ" Marcelle's arrangement was appreciated and received a standing ovation from the band's adoring fans.

As noted in a previous post, this competition will be very difficult to judge. One would hope for less tied scores and, most of all, to see Exodus move on to the next round of competition. We wish them continued success.

Trinidad and Tobago may be on a musical bull run for Carnival 2024, but just as the Twin Island Republic celebrates Carnival 2024, there is another carnival with the same dates. Carriacou, the sister island of Grenada, also hosts a pre-lenten carnival. Today we present a mix tape by Dj GlaJ that features some of the music for Kayak Mas 2024.

The music for Kayak Mas is very different from that of Trinidad and Tobago. Yes, Soca is the music, but they present a different musical style familiar to those who enjoy Jab Soca music. The music is fast-paced, ranging in speed between groove and power soca. This is all about carnival energy, and the people of Carriacou are always energized for Carnival. Let the music play on. Enjoy!

Last night, the Nutrien Silver Stars Steel Orchestra played their hearts out for their adoring fans. The band played Olatunji's "Inventor" for the preliminary judging of the large steel bands for Panorama 2024.

Considered underdogs in this category, they are focused on victory with their rendition of Inventor by Olatunji, a song that celebrates the creativity and innovation of the pan. The song was written by Olatunji Yearwood and Jason “Shaft” Bishop and produced by De Red Boyz, a Barbadian production team (a Trini and a Bajan) that has worked with many Soca stars.

Inventor is a catchy and upbeat tune that showcases Olatunji’s vocal skills and lyrical prowess. Nutrien Silver Stars’ arrangement of Inventor was done by Ojay Richards and Kersh Ramsey, two young and talented musicians who have been working with the band since 2019. The band delivered a stellar performance for the preliminary judging of the Large Steelbands 2024, held at their panyard on Tragarete Road, Port of Spain. They played with precision, energy, and enthusiasm, impressing the judges and the audience alike.

We wish Nutrien Silver Stars all the best in their quest for the Panorama title, and we look forward to hearing more from them in the future.

Phase II Pan Groove, one of the most celebrated steel bands in Trinidad and Tobago, delivered a stunning performance of "Gimme Everything" for the Panorama preliminaries in 2024. The band, led by legendary arranger Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, showcased their musical prowess along with their versatility, with a dynamic rendition of a song composed by Dr. Len "Boogsie" Sharpe.

Boogsie's arrangement had the crowd dancing and praising the talented arranger. The band also displayed their signature energy and enthusiasm, with members dancing and singing along to the catchy chorus. The band received a standing ovation and loud cheers from the crowd at the end of their performance.

Phase II Pan Groove is confident that their performance of "Gimme Everything" will give them an edge over their rivals and bring them closer to their eighth panorama victory. It has been a long 10 years since their last victory in 2014. This band needs a victory celebration, but they will have to give it all and a little more to dethrone last year's champion. Only time will tell...
