It's that time again; we are featuring another top 10 list of songs for Carnival 2025 in Trinidad and Tobago. Today we celebrate the fantastic song selections by DJ PhilaTrini! Hailing from Trinidad and now residing in Philadelphia, DJ PhilaTrini brings a unique blend of cultural influences to his sets as a regular DJ on Island Vybe Philly Caribbean Radio.
There are no "best songs lists"! These songs are about mood and vibe. Either you feel them or you don't. We're not here to promote "White Oak Rum," but we wholeheartedly believe that Patrice Roberts' new music on the "White Oak Rum Riddim" deserves our attention! When I heard this song, I immediately said to myself, "This song has a nice groove that makes you want to dance!" Patrice's captivating vocals and the infectious rhythm create an unforgettable experience that resonates with listeners, making it a standout track in the current music scene. This production is a winner!" If this song fails to ignite the stage for Carnival 2025, then I have lost touch with the essence that makes Soca so relevant for Carnival.
Let's dive into the production of this awesome song. Seumas Callender wrote "Levels" (really good stuff here), and the very talented Nikholai Greene of N.M.G. Music produced, mixed, and mastered it. "Levels" is a perfect blend of captivating lyrics, powerful vocals, and stellar music production. The flow of the music is simply awesome, creating an irresistible urge to dance and celebrate the vibrant spirit of Carnival.
We are confident in saying the following: A song by Patrice Roberts is always an excellent choice. She is so talented, and her enchanting voice brings Seumas Callender's brilliant lyrics to life, while N.M.G. Music's production adds layers of depth and energy to the track. This combination makes "Levels" stand out as one of the best releases for the upcoming Carnival season.
I am confident that this song will make the cut. I sincerely hope that the radio stations across the republic give this song a fair chance for radio play. Fans of Soca and lovers of Caribbean music, we believe this post has the potential to be a memorable moment (mic drop) for the curator of this song listing. Nikki G, "The Voice," is here to shake things up with her Top 10 Soca Songs for Carnival 2025. Be aware that these are her choices as of December 21, 2024; she plans to modify the list (true Tini talk: make changes, nah) as new music releases and unique opportunities arise.
But wait a moment; perhaps you're unaware of Nikki's awesome talent! Well, excuse me for being so rude! Let's go to the Island Vybe Radio website and extract some useful information: "Known by many across the media and Caribbean entertainment landscape as Nikki G-The Voice, the Trinidad and Tobago-born voiceover talent, digital media professional, and podcast host is making waves internationally."
Nikki G, the host of the Saturday morning talk show where she interviews prominent figures in music and culture, has a keen understanding of the Soca music scene! Her song choices demonstrate her attentiveness and avoidance of the day's hype.
Despite her reluctance to admit it (we assumed she would), she is challenging the Island Vybe Philly Radio DJs today with her carefully chosen playlist. Some of the songs she has selected are ones I personally enjoy listening to. There are many facets to 'Carnival music,' and the same is true for all Soca music. As we gear up for Carnival 2025, it's time to get a sneak peek into what's on the minds of today's top DJs. We start with Island Vybe Radio, where our DJs have curated a special list of their top ten Soca songs that they're currently enjoying. In addition to YouTube and radio requests, these songs are currently popular with DJs.
This is the second post, showcasing the selections of the highly talented DJ Tremorjayy. As mentioned in our first post, we stated: Just to ensure that everyone is on the same page, I did not ask for the most popular songs via YouTube views or requests made to radio stations or even plays on popular music platforms. This pertains to the current preferences of the DJ. The DJ's preferences could shift tomorrow or with the release of new music.
TremorJayy had this to say:
"My Top 10; I'm sure my list will change by next week, lol, but this is it as of the last few days."
