Enter V’ghn, one of Sokah2Soca's favorite Soca singers; he is no stranger to the Soca spotlight. From Grenada’s shores to the global stage, he’s earned his place as one of the most promising voices in the genre, with vocal clarity, melodic instincts, and lyrical dexterity that consistently set him apart. He’s not just a singer—he’s a cultural ambassador in the making, poised to shape the future of Soca. At times, we must pause and make choices that align with our personal interests. Having said that, every now and then, even stars stumble into riddims that don’t quite match their shine. That’s precisely why his latest release, “Body is Tea,” leaves us scratching our heads.
 
“Body is Tea,” V’ghn’s latest drop with Travis World, riding the Midnight Mas Riddim. And while the title might suggest something steamy, spicy, or scandalous, what we get instead feels… lukewarm.
 
Don't hate us, but this is how we feel about this Riddim: Midnight Mas or Midnight Meh?
Let’s start with the riddim itself. Midnight Mas—a name that evokes mystery, energy, and nocturnal revelry—sadly doesn’t deliver on its promise. The riddim is extremely minimalist, resembling a placeholder rather than a fully developed musical experience. The music lacks any build-up, tension, or captivating moment that draws you into the dance. It’s background music masquerading as a riddim release.
 
No denying V'ghn's talent but it feels rushed
V’ghn’s vocals are always clean, and his tone remains one of the most distinctive in the new wave of Soca artists. But here, it feels like he’s scrambling—throwing lyrics on a beat just to make the Spicemas deadline. There’s no lyrical depth, no clever turns of phrase, no emotional anchor. It’s Soca by numbers, not Soca by soul.
 
And that’s the real disappointment. We are aware of the potential of V'ghn. We’ve seen him elevate riddims, not just ride them. We’ve heard him bring nuance, humor, and heart to tracks that others would flatten. Therefore, when he embraces an underdeveloped track, it feels like a squandered opportunity. This situation is not a 'try it or sky it' moment but one where we should make decisions that continue on a path of positive growth.
 
How We Feel
I guess by now you would realize that we are disappointed with this music release. This is how we really feel. Take it easy, don't get frustrated; our message isn’t a takedown—it’s a nudge. V’ghn has the potential to be a generational voice in Soca. But with great talent comes great responsibility. Not every riddim is worthy of your endorsement. Not every release needs to be rushed for carnival season. Sometimes, the best move is to wait for the right beat, the right moment, and the right message.
 
V’ghn is on the cusp of greatness. But greatness requires more than talent; it demands vision, patience, and the courage to say no. We believe in his trajectory, and we hope future releases reflect the full scope of his artistry. When V'ghn achieves success, he not only creates music but also creates unforgettable moments.

Legends Reimagined Series #1.
On July 9, the Mighty Sparrow turned 90—and Sokah2Soca couldn’t let that milestone pass without a proper tribute. However, this was no ordinary tribute. We chose to celebrate this living legend the way Sparrow himself would’ve wanted: with laughter, mischief, and a cheeky Calypso that still makes grown men squirm in their chairs. We extend our belated birthday greetings to the undisputed King of Calypso! ?
 
In the Calypso kingdom, few storytellers wield wit like the Mighty Sparrow. And when it comes to double entendre, Sparrow doesn’t just flirt—he winks, struts, and drops a punchline like a seasoned stand-up in drag. This song is one of his most wickedly humorous masterpieces! “Willie Dead.” ?
 
Except that Willie isn’t dead. He’s bedroom-dead—a man whose former flame now flickers like a broken bulb. Sparrow serves up this double entendre like a Sunday stew: hot, spicy, and full of surprise ingredients.
 
“He used to be so strong... Suddenly, he can no longer perform!" The nation mourned. The women gossiped. And Willie? Regrettably, Willie failed to meet the expectations, casting doubt on his arrogant claims of masculinity.  The raw and shameful truth is that "Willie-Boi" was unable to "rise to the occasion!" Sigh... call 911 and request a few shots of bois bande! 
 
“Willie Dead” is Calypso’s version of a public service announcement—with rhythm. It exposes male insecurity, pokes fun at societal pressure, and wraps it all in danceable delight. Sparrow plays the role of the lyrical surgeon, slicing through taboos with a mic, mischievous double entendre lyrical double talk and a  smirk.
 
On Sokah2Soca, we celebrate these moments of lyrical brilliance—not only because they make us laugh, but because they remind us of the cultural power Calypso holds. The Mighty Sparrow didn't just sing about Willie; he sang about us, our expectations, and the absurdity of the masks we wear.
 
Only Sparrow could pen a eulogy where the dearly departed is actually still alive—but just... not very lively. “Willie Dead” lives on as one of Calypso’s finest provocations: proof that rhythm, wit, and a bit of cheek can make even dysfunction sound like Carnival bliss. So, pour one out—not for Willie—but for the genius who made dysfunction sound legendary. Yes. Willie is "dead." But the Mighty Sparrow? Timeless.
