Sweet Soca music is synonymous with Kes the Band. Today we present a live session performance of the song "Tack Back" by Kes the Band. In the vibrant world of Soca music, Kes, as the band is affectionately known, captures the essence of our carnival spirit and the relationships that take place during carnival time. Just one look from her, which simply translates to "Daiz yours, baby, tack back," eases the tension, and what follows next is told in song and music by Kes the Band, with lead vocals by Kees Diefenthaler.

"Tack Back" is a production by Tano; the song is a testament to the band's ability to blend multiple genres (creating a unique Caribbean sound) and create music that resonates with fans worldwide. The message in this rudeness vibe is all about the chemistry between two people drawn together by the sweet music of Kes the Band and Trinidad and Tobago's carnival culture. Enjoy some really sweet music, let your mind float away, and just enjoy the moment.

About Kes: YouTube Notes
Of the many musical acts that call Trinidad and Tobago home, perhaps none embody its polyglot culture more than KES, the eclectic Soca outfit behind some of modern Caribbean music’s most indelible anthems. Celebrated for Carnival hits (“Wotless,” “Savannah Grass”) and island pop jams (“Tuesday on the Rocks,” “Endless Summer”), the band has brought Trinidad to the world, sharing stages with the likes of Will Smith, Major Lazer, and John Legend.

For the group, charismatic singer Kees Diefenthaler (aka KES) and his brothers Jon (guitar) and Hans (drums), along with childhood friend Riad Boochoon (bass), blending Soca, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Calypso, Dancehall, and Afrobeat together is one part of their greater calling: to spread good vibes. The last three years have proven to be the most successful in the band’s decade-plus run. “Hello,” a fusion of Afrobeat and Soca originally released in 2017, continues to reach new audiences over seven years after its release.

With over 40 million plays on YouTube alone, it is one of the most streamed Soca songs of all time. We Home, a live project recorded during the COVID-19 quarantine, is the band’s first album in over five years, with fresh renditions of KES’ carnival classics showcasing their prowess as a live band par excellence.

Sometimes, as we sit and reminisce, we remember times that evoke emotional responses that cause us to smile, sigh, or just shrug off the emotional response. Having said that, while listening to music from Trinidad's just-concluded carnival, I had the opportunity to listen to "Joy & Sorrow" by Shurwayne Winchester. I realized that I did not post the song! So today, it is my pleasure to post the song and say a few words about it.

As we reminisce, meaningful music can stir feelings that may surprise us. Music has an extraordinary ability to evoke emotions, transport us to distant memories, and connect us across cultures. We conclude that “Joy & Sorrow” by the talented Trinbagonian artist Shurwayne Winchester is one of those songs that meets that criterion. Indeed, we believe that this song has a soul-stirring melody that evokes suppressed emotions, so listeners beware!

“Joy & Sorrow” is a vibrant blend of Soca rhythms, heartfelt lyrics, and Shurwayne’s unmistakable vocal prowess. Released in December 2023, the track immediately caught the attention of music enthusiasts worldwide, but sadly, we missed out because we were not attentive enough. We fixed that today. Its infectious beat invites listeners to sway, while its poignant lyrics resonate deeply.

“Joy & Sorrow” transcends language barriers. As the chorus swells, listeners feel the bittersweet dance of emotions. It’s a celebration of life’s highs and a comforting embrace during the lows. Whether on a crowded dance floor or in quiet solitude, this song resonates.

In the intricate layers of “Joy & Sorrow,” we find our shared humanity. Shurwayne Winchester and his collaborators have gifted us a timeless melody—one that reminds us that joy and sorrow are two sides of the same coin. So, let the music play, and let your heart sway to its rhythm. This song is not just "a concept by Chinese Laundry', it is all about our relationship with someone we love and cherish. How we manage the relationship is what leads to joy and sorrow, love and pain, and back in love again!

It seems that most of the Caribbean islands, with upcoming summer carnivals, are waiting for the right moment to release their new music. That is not the case for Spectrum Band; they have captured the moment with some really sweet music. If you are in the mood to dance and have a good time, then this new music release will get you in the mood. Today we feature the latest music release from Spectrum Band, titled "Whining Party."

Did you say that you like to dance and love to whine? “Whining Party” is an invitation to dance, a call to let loose and celebrate life. The beat is infectious, weaving together traditional Soca elements with modern twists. From the first note, you’re transported to a lively beachside party, where hips sway and worries dissipate.

Carnival party addicts can relate to the message Spectrum Band delivers in song. The lyrics of “Whining Party” are a celebration of life’s simple pleasures. Whether you’re dancing with a partner or moving solo, the music echoes in your mind. We come out to whine and have a good time. Yes, life is a whining party (or anything you want it to be). The Spectrum Band delivers the music to make life feel good. From the lyrical style of Malvern V. Gumbs to the vocals of Tymarri Lee, along with the live music from Spectrum Band, one has to admit that the music is really good, and with that, life is so damn sweet!

There is so much chaos around us, but we can alleviate it all with some sweet Caribbean music. In a world that often feels chaotic, music has the power to heal, uplift, and connect. “Whining Party” by Spectrum Band is a testament to this truth. So, put on your dancing shoes, gather your friends, and join the party. Let the music wash over you, and for a few minutes, forget everything else. Just remember the following: life is a dance floor, and we’re all invited to the “Whining Party.”
