With all the attention placed on the "Pan in the 21st Century Conventional Bands" Finals Competition, we must not forget about the "Pan Down Memory Lane Single Pan" competition. Some have stated that the ideas used for the musical arrangements by the bands in the "Pan Down Memory Lane" competition were superior to those in the "Pan in the 21st Century" competition.
While many stated that most conventional bands lacked imagination with their arrangements, that was not the case for the Pan Down Memory Lane Competition. We extend congratulations to Chord Masters Steel Orchestra on their victory; they will take home "The Patrick Arnold Challenge Trophy" and prize money. In second place was "D'Original Woodbrook Modernairs," while Nostrand Symphony came in third.
We celebrate all the bands that made it to the finals and delivered interesting arrangements for this competition. We have included the winning performance by Chord Masters. While the recording is not of the best quality, it does not overshadow the beautiful sounds heard.

Pan in the Savannah in June, a musical delight for Steelband music enthusiasts. The Pan Down Memory Lane and Pan in the 21st Century competitions took place at Queens Park Savannah on Sunday night. This post memorializes the results of the pan in the 21st century. Century competition. The photo above shows the results, bands' names, songs played, and points scored from 1st to 12th place. At the conclusion of the performances, the posted results showed that First Citizens Supernovas out of Lopinot Road, Arouca was adjudged the most impressive for the night.
Amit Samaroo, the band's leader and musical arranger triumphed with an arrangement of Grenade sung by Bruno Mars. The band's interpretation, runs, and tone of pans delighted the patrons in attendance with applause; the judges were also moved and determined that Supernovas did enough to eclipse the consistent Katzenjammers that played "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri. To be honest, "A Thousand Years" was a strange song selection. The song is slow and almost puts me to sleep, but Katzenjammers' arrangement was engaging and gave life to a listless song. In third place was NGC Couva Joylanders, one of my favorites in the competition. They played "Let Me Love You" by Mario.
After all the long practice nights, the work done by the arrangers, and the prodding of the drill masters the competition was engaging from the preliminary round to the finals. In the end, a few bands stood out while others did not embellish their arrangements. It was a lost opportunity for many but a learning experience for sure. Next year's competition should be better. Let's hope that the monies allocated to the competition increase making it cost-effective and lucrative enough to attract some of the best-known bands in the country. Regardless of your point of view, Steelband music is a beautiful thing, and we are thankful for those who made it happen.

We call it Soca but in Barbados, you will hear the term Bashment Soca. So what does that mean? It simply means sweet Soca music for partying/feting and having fun! Yes, it is that simple, but there are subtle differences that make this Soca sub-genre unique to Barbados. Today we are simply here to promote this current music release from Rameses titled, "Don't Back Down".
The party goal is to keep party patrons 'wining' and revelers chipping, jamming, and having fun. This song handles all the check marks for carnival revelry easily. The music will keep revelers pumping and wanting to 'wuk up' all night and all day long. If you plan to attend the Crop Over festival in 2023, add this song to your playlist. Remember, the Crop Over festival (the rest of the Caribbean will say Carnival) is scheduled for August 7–14, 2023. Get there early to enjoy all the fetes/parties leading up to Kadooment Day
